Intensives are an intensive counseling experience.  Sessions last several hours each day and extend over a one to five day period.  Intensives are designed for those who need an in depth approach to help them get “unstuck” and back on track with life. Intensives are not designed to replace individual ongoing therapy but instead they work in conjunction with your ongoing therapeutic process.

There are several reasons that a client may choose to participate in an intensive counseling experience. They may wish to gain a new perspective on their issues, they may need to work with someone who has more experience in dealing with a certain issue than their current counselor has, or they may feel defeated and need a jump start. Whatever the driving factor, intensives can offer a unique solution for the motivated client.

How do I get started?

After our initial contact, you will be interviewed by video conference, phone and/or email and evaluated to see if an intensive counseling experience would be beneficial for you. If so, a requirement for participating in one of our intensives is that you must currently be involved in ongoing individual counseling with a therapist online or in your area. Your therapist will be contacted before the intensive for their evaluation of you and to ensure that they will be willing to offer support to you after your intensive experience. They must agree that the intensive will be beneficial for you. As a part of your intake paperwork, you will be required to sign a release of information form so that I can speak with your current therapist.

What to expect?

Intensives are scheduled over one to five consecutive days. A typical intensive schedule involves meeting online for three to four hours each day then you will be asked to spend the rest of the day working on homework assignments or processing. It is highly recommended that you stay in an environment free from distractions if possible.  These tend to keep you from focusing and processing the work that is being done during your intensive.

One benefit to this type of counseling is that it can be scheduled over a weekend. This can help minimize the time missed from work or school. The recommended length of the intensive will be determined during our initial contact and interview process.

Intensives must be booked at least three weeks in advance to ensure enough time to complete the needed paperwork, therapist interviews, and planning required.

After concluding your intensive work I will contact your ongoing therapist. They will be given a fifteen minute consultation regarding your experience and progress and will be able to consult with me as needed in the future.

Costs

The cost for intensive counseling is $285 per 3-4 hour session. This includes the initial consultation/interview, counseling fees, and pre- and post follow-ups with your local, ongoing therapist.
